The next East Durham AAP Board Meeting will take place on Wednesday 8 February 2023 at 6pm at The Glebe Centre, Murton.

- Fun and Food Funding – February Half Term 2023
Funding is available for activities for children, young people and families during the February Half Term Holiday 2023. The scheme aims to support local community groups and organisations based in the East Durham AAP area to deliver enriching holiday activities during February Half Term 2023, including healthy food. Please note that we cannot fund individuals or profit-making organisations.
Applicants can apply for amounts over £500.
Applicants must provide a healthy meal; breakfast, lunch or tea, as part of the activity that aims to meet Food Safety Requirements.

- Useful information on Durham County Council services during the festive period
Residents in County Durham are being reminded that Customer Access Points and most other county council buildings will be closed over the Christmas and New Year holidays.
Customer Access Points will close at 12.45pm on Friday 23 December and reopen on Tuesday 3 January.

- Have your say on our draft Homelessness and Rough Sleeper Strategy
The council is seeking views on homelessness as part of a refresh of its homelessness and rough sleeping strategy. The strategy outlines how we work with partners to tackle, and help prevent, homelessness and sleeping rough in County Durham and we’re looking for the views of our partners and community representatives to help us meet the needs of our residents and communities for the next five years until 2028.

- Priority Services Register – electric and gas
Did you know that if the gas or electric goes off you can get extra help if you’re signed up to the Priority Services Register?
It’s easy to sign up and if you’re eligible, it means you will get things like regular updates by call or text while the gas or power is off, a home visit from the British Red Cross to check you’re okay and offer of help or somewhere else to stay if it’s not safe to stay at home.

- Oral Health Promotion Strategy Consultation
Durham County Council is seeking the views of partners, voluntary and community representatives, health and care professionals and members of the public, on its draft oral health promotion strategy which will help shape work to improve residents’ oral health for the next five years until 2028. The strategy outlines a number of initiatives which support better oral health for children, adults, older people and vulnerable and at risk groups. Feedback will help in finalising the strategy which will then be presented to the Health and Wellbeing Board in March 2023 for agreement and adoption.

The consultation is open until Monday 9 January 2023.
8.County Durham’s Network of Warm Spaces
More than 100 Warm Spaces have been created across County Durham.
Residents can find their nearest Warm Space by visiting Locate, an online directory allowing residents to connect with local services in their community, at Durham Locate.
- It’s Your Neighbourhood Funding Launch
Looking to create or enhance areas in your neighbourhood? Applications are open for our It’s Your Neighbourhood grant.
Local organisations, schools and individuals can apply for funding of up to £500 to run a community project in their area.
Over 100 groups have benefitted from the funding so far, which has been used towards projects such as planting wildflowers, developing a community allotment, and restoring disused land into a nature reserve.

- New gym, play area and bowling at Peterlee Leisure Centre
Peterlee Leisure Centre is set to undergo significant works to enhance its sports and leisure offer.
We will be carrying out works at Peterlee Leisure Centre in the new year as part of its Leisure Transformation Scheme.
New Facilities
The works will include moving gym facilities into a new space to create a dedicated fitness suite featuring exercise and weights equipment and separate studios for classes.
There will be a new adventure play area created for children and families, which will offer healthy food and drinks.
It will also see the addition of a new ten-pin bowling area to be enjoyed by those with and without memberships.
In line with our climate commitments and Climate Emergency Response Plan, environmental and decarbonisation improvements will be made to the leisure centre’s heating systems, and swimming pool.

11.Climate and Carbon Literacy Training
Full bursaries for Carbon Literacy training are available for County Durham-based voluntary, community, and social enterprises, thanks to County Durham Community Foundation and Going Green Together.
This short course is the perfect way to upskill members of your organisation on climate change awareness, carbon foot printing, and reducing carbon emissions.
